She crawls forward! A video...

It's official... she is unstoppable! Yesterday she started crawling forward for the very first time. Just in time to show off for Nanny! Apparently the cat toy was just the motivation she needed to get moving. Oscar is less than pleased with this new found skill. He can run faster than she can crawl at the moment, but he is now on guard as the "kitty kitty" is her number one interest... must... find... kitty... she seems to be saying to herself! He even makes a cameo appearance here, swaggering by with an annoyed glared, just to see what all the fuss is about. Enjoy!

A new video!

Here is the long awaited video of Isabel eating her first "solid" solids! It's quite funny to watch... over and over and over! And it shows the famous Isabel shake and nod, which is how she expresses general happiness and satisfaction.

And yes, we know it's not rightside up... but we couldn't turn it with our current video program. So just turn your monitors or your head or something. It's still funny, even on its side!

Fun with Numbers

Guess who just keeps growing? That's right, it's Miss Isa. She had an informal weigh-in this morning at 8.5 months (there is a nifty little counter for this at the bottom of the page, by the way) and she is still a little peanut. Although those chubby legs can be decieving, she is only 16lbs, 9oz and 25.5 inches long. That puts her in the 13th percentile for weight & the 3rd percentile for height! Yep, that means she's still short-- just like you know who.
The growth chart, which seems to be all the rave these days, shows that her growth is slowing down a bit which is normal and expected in a breastfed baby at her age. But, if numbers just aren't your thing and you don't do percentiles, you can atleast see for yourself that she is still quite cute! And still growing too!

Favorite things

One of Isa's new favorite things, aside from diving for cheerios and harassing (aka: loving) the cat... is playing in the toy basket. She is quite proud of herself as she crawls, rolls, and scoots herself over to the basket, sits back up and then plays until her little heart is content. That usually entails pulling everything out and putting each toy in her mouth, just to make sure they haven't changed since the day before!

Babes in (new) Toyland...

We generally loathe oversized plastic toys in this house. But this one came to us by way of our friend Jess. After hearing of Isa's desire to be up and moving, she recommended we take this home and try it out. Apparently it was a hit with her twin boys. And so we did. And Isa absolutely loves it! She can walk behind it, although with a spotter, but has yet to learn that her feet have to keep up with the pushing... otherwise she bellyflops as the toy gets pushed too far ahead. But as you can see from the photos, she still enjoys it, either way. And it doesn't hurt that the front side of it is over-stimulation central-- hence the look of utter concentration on her face.
